  • Being a Good Parent

My wife and I are only children. Only children think differently and they behave differently both as children and as adults. So what's that got to do with parenting I hear you ask. Well if you think about it, through no fault of your own there is a big gap not only in your knowledge but also in your parents knowledge - remember they only had you so yes they may have siblings but they have never reared anyone other than you.

The point is my eldest daughter (6) went into my youngest daughters bedroom - climbed into bed and gave her a hug and said 'I love you siss'. Daughter no 2(4) replies 'I love you too'. They don't know I'm ear wigging their conversation but I have never been more proud of both of them. As I said to my wife we must be doing something right. We have constantly reinforced the need to be kind to one another and I do believe this is now paying dividends.

  • Bob Hirst

Bob is my father in law and he is a fantastic man. At seventy one Bob embraces each day with enthusiasm and humour. My kids adore him and he is always there to help us out when ever we need him. He loves the simple things like a walk in the Northumbeland coutryside freshly cooked food and good wine. All round nice bloke.

  • Why ?

We all know people. Some of us know lots people others know very few. Sometime s we know lots of folks we say 'hello to' but we don't know their name. Here's a crazy thought - lets ask the people we have been smiling and saying hello to for years and years 'Hey I'm Peter what's your name?' Clearly if your name is not Peter then this question would be a little bit bizzare but would definatley be an ice breaker.

Anyway the point is we have come to conclusions about these people and that in turn impacts on how we think of them. So what's the point of all this? Well if you follow the old sales adage that people buy people then the more trusted the personal recommendation you get the more comfortable you feel about recommending that person to someone else. If we also accept that there are some great people in some poor organisations and vice versa then this blog is all about the great people not the poor organisiations. I want to collect some great stories about some great people.

So the focus of this blog has to be people not companies. Now the individuals that are highlighted may well be the charismatic leaders of a great companies or equally they could well be a fantastic teacher, the lolly pop (man or lady) who always has a kindly word or the man in the kebab shop who always remembers what you order. Whoever they are and what ever they do they are folk you know and that is what this little site is all about.
